[1]"Patrol is considered the backbone of police activities in the preservation of peace and order. Police Officers have the duty to go around a populated area for purpose of security and observation. They either move by foot or in motor vehicles in crime-prone areas within their respective beats to look for and apprehend criminals or to respond to citizens under threat or those calling for assistance. The police are ready to provide service as summarized in the acronym “SAFE”, that is, the police are Seen, Admired, Felt, and Experienced. Most often, Police Officers must be visible to the public, to let them know that they are ready to help secure the neighborhood. In conducting patrols, the officers intermingle and work with the general populace. The synergy between the police and the community is a primary factor in effective crime protection." Monteguado, A.et.al.(2014)

It also involves responding to calls for assistance and intervention. As we all know police visibility fosters a sense of security among people, a sense of assurance that police officers are prepared to act when necessary in any circumstance, and a sense of fear among potential violators. Foot patrol officers are expected to visit businesses along their beat and interact with citizens. During our Second Day, PMAJ ROGER KURT PACIFICAR, Station Commander of BCPO Station 7 briefed and oriented us on the highlighted event of the city on Sundays, the closure of the Session Road. The closure of one of the most visited roads in Baguio City is to promote tourism, this enables artistic and talented individuals to showcase their skills and national-level talents.

To add, the BCPO Station 7 is conducting 𝐎𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐍 𝐓𝐀𝐌𝐁𝐔𝐋𝐈 around the central business district to remind the public to secure all their belongings. This activity is to promote awareness of anti-criminality campaigns for the maintenance of peace and order within the area of responsibility. Oplan Tambuli is one of BCPO’s best practices and it is a way to disseminate information and deliver safety and security tips using loudspeakers or megaphones.

After the foot patrol, PMAJ PACIFICAR emphasized to the team that we must have “Happy Feet” and that we must be willing to patrol anytime and anywhere within our Area of Responsibility in order to ensure the safety of the community. In this way, this will also increase the community’s trust in PNP Organization, police visibility is one of the most practical ways to make the community feel that they are fully protected by PNP Officers. This activity truly proves that Police presence creates a sense of security in law-abiding residents, a sense of confidence that police are available to act in any situation, and a sense of terror in potential criminals.
